Michael du Toit is a highly specialized microbiologist, geneticist, and biochemist with extensive expertise in both human and agricultural pathology. His academic journey includes a BSc in Microbiology, Genetics, and Biochemistry, an Honours degree in Applied Microbiology and Pathology, and a Master’s in Applied Microbiology. He is also pursuing a PhD in Plant Pathology/Phytopathology.
Throughout his career, Michael has focused on improving human health through precision nutrition, using metabolomics and quantitative approaches to address nutritional deficiencies and treat a wide range of medical conditions. His passion for enhancing people’s quality of life drives his work, especially in building personalized relationships with clients to better understand and meet their needs.
In addition to his academic and medical endeavors, Michael has a strong background in agricultural pathology. He currently serves as the Laboratory Manager of the Molecular Laboratory at Stellenbosch University, where he is investigating innovative, non-chemical methods to combat soil-borne diseases of perennial crops. His research focuses on anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD), a promising, natural agricultural solution gaining traction in the United States. ASD presents a viable alternative to fumigation chemicals, especially in the context of rapid chemical deregistration, and offers a sustainable approach to managing multi-pathogen disease complexes in soils.
Michael is committed to using his expertise to bridge the gap between human health and agricultural sustainability, advancing both scientific knowledge and practical applications in his fields of study.
Michael du Toit has specialised as a microbiologist, geneticist and biochemist, with extensive history in dealing with both human and agricultural pathology. As a medical scientist, he believes in using metabolomics and quantitative approaches to properly understand and rectify underlying nutritional deficiencies to treat diverse medical conditions. He is passionate about improving people’s quality of life, through precision nutrition and about building a relationship with every client, on a personal basis to better understand the client’s needs.
